As a small business owner, you know that your business won’t grow if you don’t work it. You may feel you will never be able to take a vacation. If you plan and prepare ahead of time you’ll be able to take a vacation any time you want.
If you own a direct sales business or you run a coaching busienss or any other type of business that only grows when you work it, then you know you won’t grow if you don’t work. That’s why you need to prepare your business ahead of time.
If you plan to take a vacation for just a few days, then more then likely you’ll be ok, but if you plan to take more then a week, you’ll need to work your business a little harder during the weeks before you go.
Here are three of the many things you’ll need to do a head of time so you’re prepared when your vacation comes.
1. Blog posts are a way for you to stay in front of your target market all the time. Someone might read your blog in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. You want this to continue while you’re on vacation so the best thing to do is write the posts ahead of time and schedule them for the days you’ll be gone.
2. Newsletters are another way to stay in front of your target market. You can do the same thing with your newsletter that you do with your blog posts. Write them ahead of time and schedule them to go out on the appropriate day.
3. Social networking is something else you can schedule. Now you won’t be able to respond to posts that come in, but you’ll still be able to post things while you’re gone. Programs like Social Oomph and Hootsuite allow you to schedule your posts ahead of time.
Flyers, forum posts, responses to emails and comments are just a few of the tasks that will have to wait until you return to answer, but that’s ok. If you use an email that allows you to put an out of office reply on it, you need to do this so people sending emails know you’re away and that you’ll respond when you return.
Vacations are nice and they’re important for everyone. They give you the time needed to rest and relax. You’ll feel better and you’ll be amped and ready to jump right in when you return. When you prepare ahead of time, you’re business will continue to be stable while you’re gone.
